NICARAGUA-ENVIRONMENT-COFFEE-BIOGAS
A man shows how to regulate with lime the pH of water used to wash the coffee beans at La Hermandad farm in San Ramon, about 30km from Matagalpa, Nicaragua, on November 19, 2014. With the support of Dutch NGO UTZ, in several coffee producing farms in Central America, the methane in the water employed to wash the coffee beans is extracted to produce biogas, reducing the environmental pollution and saving energy. The program, presently being adopted in Nicaragua, Honduras and Guatemala, is being extended to Brazil, Peru and Colombia.
