FRANCE-WWI-MEMORIAL-VINGRE-EXECUTION
A resident wearing the uniform of a French WWI soldier, or "Poilu", attends on December 6, 2014 a memorial ceremony to 6 French soldiers executed in Vingre, northeastern France, at the site where the soldiers were shot by firing squad, as an example to others, on December 4, 1914. The memorial honours the memory of a corporal and five privates who were accused by a war council of desertion in the face of the ennemy. The Vingre Martyrs, as they came to be known, were rehabilitated by the Court of Cassation on January 29, 1921. AFP PHOTO / FRANCOIS NASCIMBENI
