NZEALAND-HEALTH-FONTERRA-FOOD-FILES
(FILES) A photo taken on August 11, 2013, shows Fonterra's Hautapu dairy factory located near the rural town of Cambridge, some 150kms south of New Zealand's largest city, Auckland. New Zealand dairy giant Fonterra bungled its response to a food contamination scare because it was more concerned with market share than public safety, an official inquiry found on December 9,2014. The botulism scare in August last year saw baby formula containing potentially toxic whey powder yanked off shelves from China to Saudi Arabia, damaging New Zealand's "clean, green" reputation. While it turned out to be a false alarm, Fonterra's delay in responding to the crisis -- it took more than two weeks to track down all products -- was "seriously deficient", the inquiry found.
