SAFRICA-CRIME-SPORT-PISTORIUS-APPEAL
South African Judge Thokozile Masipa listens on December 9, 2014 during a hearing that could open the door to an appeal of South African Paralympic athlete Oscar Pistorius' five-year manslaughter conviction. South African prosecutors on December 9 argued Pistorius' conviction was "shockingly inappropriate". The athlete was not in court to hear South African state prosecutor Gerrie Nel argue that Masipa had misinterpreted the law when she ruled Pistorius did not intentionally shoot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp four times with hollow point bullets through a locked toilet door on Valentine's Day 2013.
