Relatives of German resistance fighters and visitors commemorate during a mass 20 July 2004 at the Ploetzensee memorial for the holocaust victims in Berlin of the failed assassination attempt against Hitler on 20 July 1944 (writing means "to the victims of Hitler-s dictatorship from 1933 to 1945"). At Ploetzensee were executed the members of the resistance planning the plot after they were condemned by the public court of justice. The July 20 Plot was a failed coup d-etat initiated by officers of the Wehrmacht. The assassination attempt of 20 July 1944 marked the end of many years of efforts by top administrative officials and members of the military to change the course of the war from the centre of power by putting an end to Hitler-s leadership.
