AUSTRIA-SEX-VATICAN-SEMINARY
A picture taken 20 July 2004 shows the entrance of the St. Poelten seminary. Senior Austrian clerics today welcomed Pope John Paul II-s decision to order a probe into a sex scandal at a Roman Catholic seminary near Vienna that has rocked the church. The pope named Klaus Kueng, the bishop of Feldkirch, to investigate allegations of sex acts and thousands of pornographic photos, many featuring minors, at the seminary of St Poelten. "I face a delicate and difficult task," Kueng on Tuesday told the local news agency APA. "We cannot shock the trust that the faithful place in the church and the pope," he added. "It is with a heavy heart that I have accepted this mission and I will fulfil it with determination and devotion." The Archbishop of Vienna, Cardinal Christoph Schoenborn, cut short his summer holiday in France and returned to Austria on Tuesday after learning of the papal decision. AFP PHOTO WOLFGANG MAYER
