UGANDA-LRA-CHILD-ABDUCTIONS
Jane Kadè (R) helps to wash the hands of children from the family that adopted her in Entebbe on June 28, 2014. Kade was abducted by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a group of rebels led by Joseph Kony who seek to rule based on the Ten Commandments. She was kidnapped in June 2003. Kony's men ordered Kade to kill her own friend, she refused, so they shackled her to a tree by her hands and legs, poured petrol on her and left her for dead. Nearly a year later, when heavy fighting erupted between the LRA and the Ugandan army, she escaped. Kade’s left side of her body, mainly her arm and leg, was scared. Today, Kade has a diploma in fashion design, to earn money, she stitches together kitenge dresses and bags from brightly coloured fabric, and sells them at local markets. After two decades of fighting, the LRA was ultimately driven out of Uganda by the army in 2006, but the group remains active in the Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
