KENYA-EGYPT-ALJAZEERA-PROTEST

A protestor is moved away by United Nations security after Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was confronted during a demonstration against the incarceration of Australian journalist Peter Greste and Al-Jazeera colleagues, Mohamed Fahmy and Baher Mohamed, at a United Nations Environment programme (UNEP) reception at the United Nations headquarters in Nairobi on January 13, 2015. Greste, based in Kenya as an Al-Jazeera presenter was arrested in Cairo on December 29, 2013 and sentenced to seven years in prison for “spreading lies in an attempt to aid a terrorist group”. The terrorist group referred to is the banned Muslim Brotherhood. The three journalists have maintained their innocence and have received worldwide support from foreign leaders and protestors. A new presidential power to deport foreign prisoners may be used for the first time to free them but is only in a discussionary stage. AFP PHOTO / CARL DE SOUZA
