BELGIUM-ATTACKS-ISLAMIST-POLICE
A police officer blocks Colline street in Verviers, eastern Belgium, on January 16, 2015, a day after Belgian police shot dead two suspected jihadists during an anti-terrorism operation. The Belgian government raised the threat alert to three on a scale of four, providing the basis for it to use the military, Interior Minister Jan Jambon said. Two suspected jihadists were shot dead in a police raid in the eastern Belgian town of Verviers on January 15 and prosecutors said 13 suspects had been detained across Belgium, with two more held in France.
