ROBEAR-ROBOT

The world’s aging population could one day have robotic nursing—in the shape of a friendly bear.
Two Japanese companies have joined forces to help make up the shortfall in human carers which will occur as the population ages.
In an effort to meet the shortfall, RIKEN and Sumitomo Riko Company Limited have developed Robear.
It is a nursing care robot that combines advanced robotics and a non-threatening design.
It could be used to help the frail and infirm into and out of wheelchairs, beds or chairs and perhaps eventually even carry them around a house.
Robear , still in the development stage, was developed by the RIKEN-SRK Collaboration Center for Human-Interactive Robot Research in Nagoya.
It is designed to be strong, yet gentle, with a friendly and soft appearance.
