SWITZERLAND-UN-WTO-COUNCIL
World Trade Organization (WTO) General Director, Supachai Panitchpakdi, waits before a plenary session 28 July 2004 at the WTO headquarters in Geneva. The EU-s top trade official warned today that failure of WTO talks in Geneva this week would postpone a world trade accord by at least a year, but said he was "positive" about the latest state of play. EU trade commissioner Pascal Lamy said agreement at the Geneva talks, which started Tuesday and are aimed at reviving multilateral World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations, would be "a positive sign for the international economy".
