Explosion in southeastern Turkey kills 30
At least 28 people killed and about 100 wounded in an explosion in the garden of a municipal culture center, in Suruc, in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa near Syria border, Turkey, on July 20, 2015. The blast took place as a group from Turkish left-wing youth associations were preparing to make a press statement Suruc to announce they would cross into Kobane. The culture center, which is run by the Suruc Municipality under the control of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), frequently hosts visiting journalists and volunteers who work with refugees from Kobane. At least 300 members of the Federation of Socialist Youth Associations (SGDF) were staying at the Amara Culture Center as part of a summer expedition to help rebuild Kobane, which lies directly across the border from Suruc.
