Book and Bed is a Bookstore Themed Hostel in Tokyo
[Have you ever wished you could stay at a bookstore, reading books all night long, after all the other patrons have left? If you are visiting Tokyo or lucky enough to live there, you can experience such a night at the newly opened hostel called Book and Bed Tokyo that invitees bibliophiles to immerse themselves with books and fall asleep while reading one.
The hybrid hostel and library is located on the seventh floor of a high-rise in Tokyo's Ikebukuro neighborhood, just a minute away from Ikebukuro Station. At first glance, it looks like a trendy bookshop with bookshelves lining one end of the room and sofas with comfy cushions the other. But behind those bookshelves are 12 single-occupant, capsule-like sleeping compartments that can be reached by climbing a ladder.
Two sizes of compartment are available. The Compact measures 205 x 85 centimeters (80.7 x 33.5 inches), and the roomier Standard is 205 x 129 centimeters. The property also has 18 Bunk sleeping spaces, which are a bit closer to what youÕd find in a typical Japanese capsule hotel.
The hostelÕs library has some 1,700 books at the time of its opening last month, picked out by Shibuya Publishing & Booksellers. These books caters to both Japanese and English-speaking patrons. Book and BedÕs owner, R-Store, a real estate select shop, hopes to eventually expand its library to 3,000 books. None of the books are actually for sale though.]
