Palestinian children lie on the ground during a protest against the closure of the border betwen Rafah and Egypt in the southern Gaza Strip 02 August 2004. Rights groups and Palestinian residents stranded on the Egyptian side of the border with Gaza filed a petition 28 July 2004 to the Israeli high court to press for the lifting of security restrictions that would allow the return of some 2,500 Palestinians. The Israeli authorities said that they closed the crossing for fear of militant attacks but had offered alternatives. The Israeli-controlled Rafah border has been closed since July 10.
