OLY2004-OPENING-KOR-PRK
South Korean volleyball player Min Jung Ku (R) and North Korean Olympic Committe Official Song Ho Kim (C) carry a neutral banner during the opening ceremony of the 2004 Olympic Games at the Olympic Stadium 13 August 2004 in Athens. In a gesture laden with symbolism, athletes from the Stalinist North and capitalist South entered the Olympic Stadium together under the banner depicting a simple picture of the Korean peninsula. North and South Korea are divided by the world-s last Cold War frontier and remain technically at war as no formal peace treaty was ever signed to end their bloody 1950-53 conflict.
