File photo - The archeological site of Al Hijr, near Madain Salih, also known as Hegra is a World Heritage Site in Saudi Arabia. It consists of a necropolis built by the Nabateaens, in the 1st century BC until 1st century AD. The tombs are decorated. The site is the largest south of Petra and is going to be a major asset in the development of tourism in Saudi Arabia. Al Hijr, Madain Salih, Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia welcomed 24,000 tourists in the 10 days after it issued tourist visas for the first time, state television reported on Tuesday. Saudi Arabia announced on September 27 it would start offering tourist visas, opening up the kingdom to holidaymakers as part of a push to diversify its economy away from oil.
