Paris Mayor Bertrand Delanoe (C) listens to Paris Grand Rabbi David Messas (R) and Rabbi Claude Zaffran, from a nearby synagogue, 22 August 2004 during his visit to a Jewish social center in central Paris, which was destroyed by fire overnight in an anti-Semitic arson attack. The premises, around 100 square meters on the ground floor of a block, were set on fire around 4.00 am (0200 GMT) 22 August 2004. The fire was rapidly put out and the building was not evacuated, police said. There were no casualties but the centre was gutted. Swastikas had been daubed in red felt tip on two fridges.
