VATICAN - PAVILIONUL DE TRASURI

Pope John Paul II's popemobile Fiat Campagnola within the carriage pavillon of the Vatican Museums on March 2021.
- Inaugurated in 1973 by pope Paul VI the carriage pavillon (Padiglione delle Carrozze) of the Vatican Museums shows a collection of ceremonial berlins, sedan chairs, various automobiles and popemobiles belonging to Pontiffs or Princes of the Holy Roman Church.
- Pope John Paul II received this popemobile as a gift from FIAT in 1980. The Fiat Campagnola is sadly associated with the attempt on Pope John Paul II’s life in St. Peter’s Square on 13 May 1981.
Immediately after the assassination attempt, the level of security and personal protection for the Holy Father was increased and a new armoured version of the Popemobile appeared.
