VATICAN - PAVILIONUL DE TRASURI

Popes Paul VI and John Paul II's Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL limousine within the carriage pavillon of the Vatican Museums on March 2021.
- Inaugurated in 1973 by pope Paul VI the carriage pavillon (Padiglione delle Carrozze) of the Vatican Museums shows a collection of ceremonial berlins, sedan chairs, various automobiles and popemobiles belonging to Pontiffs or Princes of the Holy Roman Church.
- In 1966 Mercedes produced this vehicle for the Pontiff.
Although the Mercedes-Benz 300 SEL limousine remained in use for many years it was only rarely used. Although it was not equipped with air conditioning, Pope John Paul II immediately chose it as his main vehicle, and indeed following the assassination attempt in St. Peter’s Square it was heavily and fully armoured.
