The news media arrived at the offices after social media alerted them to the prosecutor's search, but were not able to view the search happening. Russian prosecutors are searching the offices of Memorial, one of the country’s oldest and most respected rights nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), which used to be funded from the U.S. Agency for International Development USAID, but funding dried up after Russia kicked USAID out of the country last year.
