May 18, 2022, Malaya Rohan, Ukraine: Residents view trench positions of Russian forces that are littered with munitions and other remnants of war while they used the site for artillery shelling during occupation of Malaya Rohan, Ukraine on May 18, 2022. The towns on the outskirts of Kharkiv have been liberated as Ukrainian forces push Russians back to the border. ..‘This is my land, why must I go?’ said a resident that requested his name not be used. He described living through the occupation with his 78-year-old elderly mother. ‘I was born here, I lived here, I worked here. It’s my land! Why? I don’t understand. It was good house they just ruined. Why? What we did to them?’ he exclaimed. ..‘And you know they just bomb, bomb, bomb. Every day from morning to evening…It was a time when I thought they was our brothers. And now I hate them because they did this to my village, to my people… Civil people, no military.’ ..Speaking about his mother, ‘There was a time she came to me and said I can’t be here, it’s very hard for me. And about two or three days everything stops, and our troops pushed them away. She likes to work with the ground, vegetables - for her to forget about all this. For her it’s therapy. Everyone in the village needs some therapy. We go on bikes, you know. To forget about everything.’ ..‘It was very, very hard times,’ he said sadly as he looked at the trenches where they took aim at his village and the life he once knew.
