AP - Tropical Weather Uneven Recovery
A group of friends dance along to music by the light of a battery-powered lantern, on the ground floor of the home of Sparky Abrandt, a Long Island electrician who moved to town 5 years ago, in Horseshoe Beach, Fla., Friday, Sept. 1, 2023. Two days after Hurricane Idalia blew through town, destroying dozens of unstilted homes, sweeping away lower level improvements from stilted ones, and knocking out the power grid, Abrandt was determined to maintain his tradition of open-invite Friday evening parties and give his friends coping with storm damage and no electricity a chance to unwind.
