GIRONA, SPAIN - JUNE 03: Catalan and French farmers block the La Jonquera route to France with tractors, different agricultural tools and items during the 24-hour protest in La Jonquera, Girona, Spain on June 03, 2024. Gathered by Revolta Pagesa's Call, Catalan and French farmers blocking La Jonquera and other roads leading to France during the protest ahead of the eve of the European Elections. Farmers who protest to make their voices heard during the European election campaigns held before the elections to be held next Sunday, June 9, are closing the border crossings between Spain and France including AP-7 at La Jonquera, the C-38 at the Coll de Ares (Ripolles), the N-152 at Puigcerda, the N-145 at La Seu d'Urgell, and the N-230 at Bossost (Val d'Aran). The agricultural sector has returned to the roads after the February protests, which blocked the main communication routes for several days. However, Unio de Pagesos, which has the majority representation in Catalonia, does not support this protest as it does not consider it “legitimate” to mobilize during the European election campaign.
