A concept for human head transplants performed entirely by robots, has been announced.

Berlin-based molecular biologist Hashem Al-Ghaili says the plan, called BrainBridge, preserves brain condition while a head is transplanted onto a donor body.

And if the donor body is considerably young, the donor’s face can also be swapped onto the patient.

The advantage of a head transplant would be to people with severe disabilities such as a paraplegic or to those with a terminal illness.

The surgery would be driven by AI algorithms directing the many robotic arms to remove the head and attach it to the new torso, reconnecting the spinal cord, nerves and blood vessels.

A proprietary chemical adhesive and polyethylene glycol would be used to reconnect severed neurons.

Al-Ghaili said BrainBridge was “the world’s first concept for a head transplant system.”
