Plans approved for tallest skyscraper in USA

A skyscraper that will be the tallest building in the USA and fifth tallest in the world, has been given planning permission.
The Legends Tower was designed by California-based architecture studio AO for the city of Oklahoma for developer Matteson Capital
The proposed plans put the $1.5 billion skyscraper at 581 metres tall, significantly higher than the current tallest structure – the Freedom Tower in New York, which is 541 metres.
The building will house hotels, residences and commercial space.
The application was originally put forward earlier this year, with a height of 533 metres.
Shortly afterwards, the developer announced that they had changed the plans and were asking permission from the city to build at the currently approved height.
Construction is planned to begin this autumn.
A spokesperson for AO said when completed the tower, for the development called Boardwalk at Bricktown, will “across the globe.”
The Oklahoma city council this week approved the development which also includes three smaller structures.
The spokesperson added: "We are grateful that the City Council has embraced the vision of Matteson Capital and the entire design team to transform the city into a global destination.”
The world's tallest building is the 828 metre Burj Khalifa in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
