Astronauts could one day be living on the Moon in a base built from Lego-style bricks.
Scientists at the European Space Agency have used dust from a 4.5 billion year old meteorite to 3D print bricks, similar to Lego brick, to help design
lunar shelters
The Space Bricks have helped the team explore how buildings
could be made using materials found in space.
As well as accommodation they could also be used for launch pads as part of US space agency NASA’s Artemis programme to put humans back on the Moon before the end of the decade
To test whether space materials could be used to create structures, the European team 3D printed Lego-style bricks with the meteorite dust to see if they could still be used as a building block on small scale versions of structures.
