File photo - Masoud Pezeshkian, one of the two candidates qualifying for the second round of the Iranian presidential election, appears on the stage in a gathering of his supporters along with Reformist politician Mohammad Reza Aref in Tehran, Iran, on July 3, 2024. Reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian has won Iran’s presidential election, Iranian state news agency Press TV reported Saturday citing the country’s election headquarters, beating his hardline rival in a pivotal vote at a time of tensions at home and abroad. Pezeshkian was elected in a second round of voting after securing the highest number of ballots in the first round, ahead of Jalili. The first round saw the lowest voter turnout for a presidential election since the Islamic Republic was established in 1979. Photo by Khoshiran/Middle East Images/ABACAPRESS.COM
