LEBANON-SYRIA-TROOPS
Two Syrian soldiers stand guard 21 September 2004 in front of their post in the Lebanese village of Aley in the mountains southeast of Beirut. Syria started redeploying about 3,000 troops in Lebanon, with most of them due to return home, according to a high-ranking Lebanese army official. However, a full Syrian army pullout from Lebanon will only occur after a comprehensive Middle East peace deal for an Israeli withdrawal from all occupied Arab lands, Lebanese Defense Minister Mahmud Hammud told reporters.
