CHINA-TIBET-GEOLOGY

This photo taken 26 February 2004 shows a Tibetan nomads watching their horses outside their tent on the shores of Nam-tso Lake at over 4700 metres above sea-level on the high plateau of Northern U province, Tibet. According to a 06 October 2004 report, Chinese scientists are challenging the conventional view that the Tibetant mountains only started forming 50 to 60 million years ago when the Indian subcontinent, then a huge island, slowly pushed towards into Asia. Rather, the "roof of the world" may have been present in embryoninc form as early as 140 million years ago, the report said. AFP PHOTO/Peter PARKS
