P0LYNESIA-POLITICS-PROTEST
Supporters of ousted president of French Polynesia Oscar Temaru protest 25 October 2004 in Papeete to support their leader. Temaru started a hunger strike 25 October 2004 in protest at his controversial ejection from office last weekend. Pro-independence leader Temaru said he and his ousted ministers would go on hunger strike immediately after the government was voted from power by parliament 22 October 2004. Temaru was replaced as leader of the French territory after just over three months in power by long-serving former ruler Gaston Flosse, a loyal ally of French President Jacques Chirac.
