US-ELECTION-POLLING
Lissette Barahona and her son Jason, age 6, vote at a polling station in a bridal shop in Los Angeles, CA, 02 November 2004 for the US presidential election. Americans chose a new president Tuesday, deciding between George W. Bush and John Kerry after a bitter, marathon debate focused on national security that left the race in an agonizing dead heat. As many as 120 million voters were expected to turn out for the first presidential contest since the 11 September, 2001 terrorist attacks transformed the country-s political landscape and view of the world.
Long lines of voters were reported across the country, including the critical swing states of Ohio in the midwest and Florida in the southeast where some people queued for hours to cast their ballot. AFP PHOTO / Robyn BECK
