CZECH-RUSSIA-TERRORISM-BESLAN
CZECH REPUBLIC OUT
David, one of forty children from Beslan, North Ossetia, who survived the September 2004 terrorist attack, jokes as he plays with a puppet of Brave Soldier Schweik, hero of Josef Hasek-s novels after the group of Beslan children arrived 02 December in the spa town of Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad) to recover from the traumatic experience. Out of the total of 1,200 hostages in the Beslan school, 330 people, including 172 children, were killed after Russian forces raided the compound in a rescue operation. The travel costs are covered by the Russian side from sponsors- gifts, while the Czech Foreign Ministry will earmark about one million crowns for the children-s convalescence stay in the Czech Republic.
