Opel chairman Hans Demant gives a press conference at the Opel plant in Ruesselsheim, 09 December 2004. Opel-s US parent company, General Motors said that it had reached a framework agreement with unions on a deep restructuring programme for its loss-making Opel unit. Under terms of the deal between management and unions at Opel, the planned job cuts in Germany are to be implemented without any compulsory redundancies or plant closures.
