HAITI-MEDICINE-STREET
A Haitian youth hawks various medicines 13 December 2004 in the commercial center of Port-au-Prince. Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with 80 percent of the population living in abject poverty. The country suffers from rampant inflation, lack of investment, and severe trade deficit. Extensive civil strife in early 2004, marked by the flight of President Jean Bertrand Aristide and, later in the same year, the efects of Hurricane Jeanne further impoverished Haiti.
