CZECH-CUBA-RIGHTS
CZECH REPUBLIC OUT
Liuver Saborit and his wife Mayda, a Cuban couple granted political asylum in the Czech Republic stage 13 December 2004 a protest outside the Cuban Embassy in Prague to highlight their 17-month fight to be reunited with their two children. Liuver Saborit, 29, and Mayda Arguelles, 32, came to the Czech Republic from Cuba in the summer of 2003 on a tourist visa and were granted political asylum last December. But the Cuban authorities refused to allow their nine-year-old son Yancarlos and two-year-old daughter Ivanita to leave the country. The couple, who now live in Brno, 200 kilometres (125 miles) east of Prague, demonstrated along with a few dozen supporters and said that if their protest was unsucessful they would launch a hunger strike in the coming days.
