TAIWAN-JAPAN-RAIL
The train, the latest of Japan-s "Shinkansen" series, roars into the Tainan station in southern Taiwan, 27 January 2005 as firecrackers are set off during a test run ceremony for Taiwan-s first high-speed rail system being constructed. The Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation said the test run marked a significant step towards the beginning of commercail operations slated for October 2005. AFP PHOTO/PATRICK LIN
