SAILING-VENDEE GLOBE-RIOU
Frenchman Vincent Riou gives a thump up 02 February 2005 less than 100 miles off the coast of France. Riou was heading for victory Wednesday in the Vendee Globe round-the-world sailing race. The 33-year-old, competing in his first Vendee Globe, was 200 miles from the finish with a 66 mile lead on fellow Frenchman Jean le Cam in Bonduelle.Briton Mike Golding-s Ecover was 158 miles behind Riou who was expected to finish later Wednesday in a record 86 days to complete a fifth straight win for French sailors.
