Japan's Tsukuba University postgraduate Hiroaki Kawamoto displays the prototype of powered-suit "HAL-3 (Hybrid Assistive Leg)" which enables to forsee user's motion and to assist gait disorder persons or aged people to walk with it easily during a demonstration at the University in Tsukuba city, suburban Tokyo 23 July 2003. The HAL-3, developed by Professor Yoshiyuki Sankai, is consisted of four actuators on the knees and hip joints, control unit in the backpack and various sensors such as floor sensors on the sole of shoes to keep balance and myoelectrical sensors to measure EMG on the thighs to watch indications from the brain to move muscles for walking.
