NEPAL-MEDIA-PROTEST
Bishnu Nishthuri (2L), president of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, leads a protest rally against the government-s plan to muzzle the press in Kathmandu, 24 May 2005. About 500 Nepalese journalists joined in the action, with their mouths covered with black bands, as a mark of strong protest against the government-s new law to muzzle the press. The law will come into effect once it receives Royal assent. Over 100 FM radio journalists were left jobless after the FM radio stations were prohibited from broadcasting news in the wake of King Gyanendra-s power grab and enforcement of a state of emergency in Feburary 2005.
