NEPAL-MEDIA-PROTEST

A group of journalists hold dead mobile phones, whose service has not been restored at Nayan Baneswor, in a protest rally against the government plan to muzzle the media, in Kathmandu, 10 June 2005. About 150 journalists demanding freedom of the press and electronic media took part in the protest rally, carrying banners against the government-s new law to muzzle the press. The law will come into effect once it receives Royal assent. Over 1,000 FM radio journalists lost their jobs after the FM Radio stations were prohibited from broadcasting the news since King Gyanendra-s power grab in Feburary. AFP PHOTO/DEVENDR A M SINGH
