FRANCE-STORE-SAMARITAINE
A security guard closes a door of the La Samaritaine department store in Paris, 15 June 2005, as it closes for several years. The department store closes today, perhaps forever, after inspectors found that the century-old building by the Seine river falls catastrophically short of fire safety norms. In the last 15 years there has been a drastic decline in the store-s sales. LVMH, which took control in 2001, denied union allegations that it plans to close the store for good and convert the building into office space.
