SPAIN-BASQUE-IBARRETXE-OATH
Moderate Basque nationalist leader Juan Jose Ibarretxe (R) is congratulated by former Basque Parliament president Juan Maria Atutxa (L)at the Casa de Juntas after being sworn in 25 June 2005 as Basque government president (Lehendakari) in the northern Spanish Basque town of Guernica. Ibarretxe took the oath in the Basque language Euskera, under the Guernica oak tree, and with his hand lying on the first Bible in Euskera, published in London in 1859.
