US-SPACE-CURRENT SOLAR IMAGE
This 26 October, 2003 NASA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory image shows a giant magnetic loop (R) filled with glowing-hot gas blasting away from the Sun. Two Jupiter size sunspots are crossing the face of the Sun at the same time and pose threats for X-class solar flares, major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms.
