MEXICO-HURRICANE WILMA
British Joanna Summers (R), 26 and Phillip Jones, 41 read in one of the hotels where foreign tourists were evacuated in downtown Cancun 21 October 2005. Hurricane Wilma turned the popular resort city of Cancun into a ghost town, as thousands of tourists who did not evacuate were whisked from luxurious, air-conditioned seaside hotels to hot, crowded emergency shelters. The slow-moving monster system, a category four on the five-level Saffir-Simpson intensity scale, was due to hit the Yucatan peninsula within hours. AFP PHOTO/Alfredo ESTRELLA
