German commandos secure the area around theFrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) during a special mass 30 October 2005. The 18th century Protestant church, a searing symbol of the suffering of German civilians after its destruction in World War II bombing and now of reconciliation between the one-time enemies, has been re-consecrated after over 10 years of reconstruction costing some EUR 180 million (218 million dollar).
