IRAQ-US-BRAZIL-MARINES
Brazilian-born US marine Lance Corporal Daniel Moreira de Carvalho, 24, from Springfield, Virginia, gives a sweet to an Iraqi child during a foot patrol in Fallujah, 50km west of Baghdad, 20 December 2005. Carvalho, who originally comes from Duque de Caxias suburb, from Rio de Janeiro city, among two others Brazilian-born, has been deploying in Iraq for their first time since September 2005, attached with Echo Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marines Regiment. Self-confessed, all three of them had already killed resistence fighters when their patrol, in charge of the northern area of the restive city of Fallujah, came under insurgent fire.
