GERMANY-CARNIVAL-TRADITION-PARADE
A float featuring the German "Michel" being whipped by German Chancellor Angela Merkel makes its way through the revellers during the Rose Monday carnival street parade 27 February 2006 in Cologne, western Germany. More than one million people took to the streets of cities across the Rhine region of Germany to celebrate the highpoint of the country-s carnival week. Carnival is a tradition stemming from Catholic regions in the west and south of Germany, but it is rapidly being adopted by cities in the north and east. AFP PHOTO DDP/HENNING KAISER GERMANY OUT
