GERMANY-CARNIVAL-TRADITION-PARADE
The combo of pictures taken 27 February 2006 shows fools attending the Rose Monday carnival street parades in Mainz, Duesseldorf, Cologne and Koethen. The Rose Monday parades are the highpoint of a week of festivities which sees Germans let down their hair, wear silly costumes and consume liberal quantities of sweets and beer. Carnival is a tradition stemming from Catholic regions in the west and south of Germany, but it is rapidly being adopted by cities in the north and east. AFP PHOTO DDP GERMANY OUT
