PHILIPPINES-US-ATTACKS-AID
US Ambassador to the Philippines Kristie Kenny (3rd from R) accompanied by local officials inspects the newly rehabilitated Bongao port that was funded by the USAID with cost of 53 million peso (around one million USD) during a turnover ceremony at Bongao, the capital of Tawi-Tawi group of islands close to the Philippines-Malaysia border 27 July 2006. The US is pouring in economic and humanitarian aid in an effort to help root out Islamic militants linked with the Al-Qaeda terror network and improve the standard of living in the remote southern Philippine island rocked by violence.
