LEBANON-MIDEAST-ISRAEL-UNREST
A Lebanese man checks for survivors in the rubble of a building hit by an Israeli airstrike yesterday in the coastal village of Ghaziyeh, near the port city of Sidon, 08 August 2006. Israel today cautiously welcomed a Lebanese proposal to deploy 15,000 troops north of their border under a UN ceasefire resolution, but ordered its army to prepare for an expanded ground offensive if diplomatic efforts fail.
